10개의 원이 홀로 또는 겹쳐져 있고 각각 흑회색, 노랑, 연두, 붉은 색으로 채색돼 있다. 금속표면 같은 바탕의 질감은 작가의 작업방식에 따른 회화적 효과다. 건축 재료인 퍼티(벌어진 틈새를 메꾸거나 패인 곳을 채우는 일종의 접착제)와 물감을 섞어 패널에 바르고 굳히기를 반복하는 과정에서 생채기처럼 드러나는 '갈라진 틈'을 만들고 이 표면을 갈아내고 씻으면 화면에서 보듯 배경화면이 나타난다.

'갈라진 틈'은 삶의 흔적임과 동시에 또 녹록지만은 않을 남은 날의 모습이다. 이인석은 작업할 때 굳이 논리나 개념의 구성에 맞추지는 않는다. 즉흥적일 때가 많다. 그럼에도 불구하고 '갈라진 틈'은 어떤 '경계'라기보다 오히려 원 모양의 조형요소들을 연동시켜줌으로써 다른 평면과 공간으로 이동하는 길라잡이 역할을 한다. 작가의 작품에 반원 모양의 조형요소들은 그 꼴로 인해 이미 프레임 밖의 다른 면이나 공간을 암시하고 있기 때문이다.

자신의 작업을 "好·作·質 한다"는 표현을 한다. 好(호)는 좋아하는 것, 作(작)은 짓거나 만드는 것, 質(질)은 물질이나 형상의 바탕이 되는 것, 즉 좋아하는 것을 회화로 만들어 물질이나 형상의 바탕이 되도록 하는 일이 그의 작업이다. 자연히 이런 '호·작·질'로 완성된 작업은 슬픔과 기쁨, 고통과 안식, 빛과 어둠, 생성과 소멸, 삶과 죽음 등 기억에서 소환된 상흔이자 기록이다.

Ten circles, alone or stacked, are colored in black gray, yellow, chartreuse, and red. The metallic surface-like texture of the background is a painterly effect of the artist's working method. By mixing putty, a building material (a kind of glue that closes gaps or fills potholes), with paint, applying it to the panel and letting it harden, she creates "cracks" that appear like raw paint, and when she grinds and washes the surface, the wallpaper appears as seen on the screen.

The 'cracks' are traces of life and the remaining days that will not be easy. Inseok Lee does not necessarily follow a logical or conceptual organization in his work; it is often improvised. Nevertheless, the 'crack' is not a 'boundary' but rather a guide to move to another plane and space by interlocking the circle-shaped sculptural elements. This is because the semicircle-shaped sculptural elements in the artist's works already hint at other planes or spaces outside the frame by their very appearance.

The artist describes his work as "好-作-質". 好 is to like, 作 is to build or create, and 質 is to be the basis of matter or form, that is, his work is to make his favorite things into paintings to be the basis of matter or form. Naturally, the work completed with these three elements is a scar and a record summoned from memory: sorrow and joy, pain and repose, light and darkness, creation and destruction, life and death.
