‘물은 아래로 흐르고, 불은 하늘로 타오르니, 비는 하늘에서 주는 선물이고, 불은 인간의 염원을 하늘로 전달하는 중개자이자 신’ 이라 여긴다고 한다. 불을 신성시 여기는 사람들의 말이다.

이렇게 위대하고도 강렬한 에너지를 지닌 불앞에 서면, 누구나 한번쯤 묘한 감정을 느껴보았을 것이다. 나의 작업 또한 그렇게 시작되었다.

촛불이든, 장작불이든, 아궁이불이든... 불가에서는 누구나 사색가의 자세를 취한다. 턱을 양팔에 괴고, 온몸의 힘이 빠지며, 의식은 희미해져간다. 불이 나타내는 온기, 에너지, 빨려들어갈 듯한 변화무쌍함이 나를 몽상으로 빠져들게 한다. 이렇듯 순수한 불은 인간의 감정을 흔들어 놓는다.

나는 물론이고 보는이의 감정도 흔들 수 있는 순수한 불을 표현하려 한다.

Water flows downward, fire burns upward, rain is a gift from heaven, and fire is considered a god, an intermediary that carries the wishes of men to heaven. These are the words of those who hold fire sacred.

Anyone who has ever stood in front of a fire with such great and intense energy must have felt a strange sensation. That's how my work began.

A candle, a wood fire, a fireplace... In front of a fire, everyone assumes the posture of a contemplative. Chin resting on arms, body slumped, consciousness fading. The warmth, energy, and all-consuming nature of the fire lulls me into a reverie. Fire in this pure form shakes human emotions.

I try to express the pure fire that can shake the emotions of the viewer as well as my own...
